CA CPT Exam Syllabus
In the previous post, we have given CPT Study Material and Mock Test and Model Test Papers . Here in this article, we are providing CA CPT Exam Syllabus 2019 in PDF format. ICAI conducts CPT exam twice in a year in the months of June and December.
There are 4 subjects in CPT Syllabus i.e. Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. There are 2 sessions in CA CPT exam i.e. Session I and Session II. In the session I, the exam includes subjects of Fundamentals of accounting and Mercantile Law for 100 marks and in session II, exam includes subjects of General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) For 100 Marks. CA CPT Exam Syllabus
There are 4 subjects in CA CPT Exam Syllabus i.e. Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Law, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. There are 2 sessions in CA-CPT exam i.e. Session I and Session II. In the session I, Fundamentals of accounting and Mercantile Law for 100 marks and in session II, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) For 100 Marks.

A candidate is required to secure a minimum of 30 percent marks in each Section and a minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate in all the four Sections to pass the Common Proficiency Test.
In other words, it is clarified that if a candidate secures a minimum of 50 percent marks in the aggregate, but fails to secure the minimum marks required in any one or more of the sections A, B, C or D (as mentioned above), this result will be FAIL. Similarly, if a candidate secures a minimum of 30 percent marks in each section but fails to secure 50 per cent marks in the aggregate of all sections his result will be FAIL.

(iii) Accounting Standards – concepts, objectives, benefits
(iv) Accounting Policies
(v) Accounting as a measurement discipline – valuation principles, accounting estimates
- Accounting Process
Books of Accounts leading to the preparation of Trial Balance, Capital and revenue expenditures, Capital and revenue receipts, Contingent assets and contingent liabilities, Fundamental errors including rectifications thereof.
- Bank Reconciliation Statement
- Inventories
The basis for inventory valuation and record keeping.
- Depreciation accounting
Methods, computation and accounting treatment of depreciation, Change in depreciation methods.
- Preparation of Final Accounts for Sole Proprietors
- Accounting for Special Transactions
(a) Consignments

(c) Bills of exchange and promissory notes
(d) Sale of goods on approval or return basis.
- Partnership Accounts
Final accounts of partnership firms – Basic concepts of admission, retirement, and death of a partner including treatment of goodwill.
- Introduction to Company Accounts
An issue of shares and debentures, forfeiture of shares, re-issue of forfeited shares, the redemption of preference shares.
CPT Mercantile Law Syllabus
Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)
- The Indian Contract Act, 1872: An overview of Sections 1 to 75 covering the general nature of the contract, consideration, other essential elements of a valid contract, performance of a contract and breach of contract.
- The Sale of Goods Act, 1930: Formation of the contract of sale – Conditions and Warranties – Transfer of ownership and delivery of goods – Unpaid seller and his rights.
- The India Partnership Act, 1932: General Nature of Partnership – Rights, and duties of partners –Registration and dissolution of a firm.

CA CPT Exam Syllabus | CA Foundation New Syllabus
Changes in CA CPT Exam Syllabus From 2018:
- The present entrance exam CPT (Common Proficiency Test) has changed to “Foundation Exam”
- CPT MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) based exam has changed to the Foundation descriptive exam. Now you can register for CPT before 6 months. Under the new scheme, you should register before 9 months.
- The adequate time gap is given so that students get sufficient time to study since the Foundation Course has been made descriptive. Also, there is an addition to full paper.
- Foundation Examination will be partly descriptive in nature.
- ICAI has added two additional papers in the Foundation exam (CPT). They are 1. General English for 40 Marks. 2. Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks).
CA CPT Exam Syllabus 2016 – Foundation Course (CPT) syllabus applicable from 2018
Foundation Course: Number of Papers — 4
There are 4 papers in the CA Foundation course. Remember one thing that Paper 2 and Paper 4 will be Objective type papers. Read below!!

*Paper 2 and Paper 4 will be Objective type papers

- Passing percentage:Aggregate- 50% and Subject-wise- 40% at one sitting.
- Objective type question of I or more marks.

Mahesh Jawalge @ there is no official announcement about applicability of new syllabus. But if you register for old syllabus, even if u fail in Dec 2015, icai will give u some number of attempts to complete cpt as per old syllabus

In reply to your query, ICAI will release CPT admit card / hall ticket generally 1 month prior to exam. Candidates may print their admit card from the website, which will be valid for the examination. Physical admit card will be sent to only those who had submitted physical OMR exam application form by post/by hand and are found eligible, generally 21 days prior to the commencement of the examination. No physical admit card will be sent to those who have applied online. They will be required to print their admit card from the above mentioned website.

We would like you to know that Initial registration for Common Proficiency Course (CPC) is valid for 3 years and revalidation of registration shall be done for further period of three years before expiry of Initial registration. So, in short if you re-validate your CPT registration before expiry you can sit for CA CPT for another 3 years.
Fee of each revalidation is Rs. 300.

Dec 2016 attempt will be based on old syllabus,
Please note that on completion of the whole process relating to the implementation of the Revised Scheme, an announcement would be made for all the students along with the transition scheme for the existing students.
In view of above, the students are advised to concentrate on their studies on the basis of prevailing scheme.
