“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift and that’s why it is called present.” This is a quote from the movie Kung Fu Panda which I was reminded of while writing this article about Jatin Kakkar who emphasizes on the importance of the present moment.

Jatin, who is CA Topper from Ludiana, believes in living in present and not to worry about the future.

Jatin hails from a small place called Firozpur which he proudly describes as The Land of Martyrs. Jatin is a dedicated and patient student who values his family the most. He describes one incident after 12th when he had an opportunity to pursue his higher studies in Australia but instead he chose to stay back in India for his parents.

In the age of social media where youngsters spend most of their time with their mobile devices Jatin loves to spend time with his family

He goes on to add one more incident from his preparation days when he used to travel back to his home town from Ludhiana (where he was taking coaching) every weekend just to spend some time with his parents because he could feel that they missed him even if they said nothing.

“I wanted to give the exams and get back to my parents soon” he adds further.

Jatin mentions that neither has he done B.com nor he had any idea regarding CPT exams when he started. But when he came to know that CA is one of the toughest exams, being a challenge taker, he wanted to go on with it. This is how his success journey started.

“My father is my biggest motivator”

Jatin faced quite a lot of challenges since no proper coaching was available in Firozpur. Being away from family and friend was the major challenge that he faced during the preparations.

His busy schedule consisted of 10-12 hours of coaching and 4-5 hours of self-study and in between these rigorous study hours he managed time for his friends and gymming.

“Gymming helps me release stress and I feel free and motivated” adds the young topper.

Jatin recalls first reaction as the smile on his parents faces and says “they were so happy”. He also mentions that before the result he had mixed reactions of anxiety and excitement.

When asked about how difficult was it taking group 1 and 2 together, Jatin says “Nothing is difficult. It’s just the mindset we have made” According to him one should try to understand the logic behind everything and then only the subject will seem interesting. If we try to learn or cram, we would easily get irritated.

When asked about what advice he has for people preparing for competitive exams like CA he stresses on the importance of understanding the logic behind a particular thing and to fall in love with the subject and to live in the present moment.
