To accomplish anything in life, we need a plan. Planning for a goal affords us the direction that we need to make consistent progress. To successfully clear an examination or course, too, you need a plan to get started; This holds true for school and university examinations as well as competitive examinations like NEET and IIT-JEE or professional examinations like CA, CMA, and CS. In this article, we’ll help you create a study plan for CMA and also provide a standardized, generic CMA Study Plan 2019 2020.

Are you preparing for the CMA examination? If yes, then this article details a reliable CMA study plan that you can use to make the most of the 4-5 months that you have at the moment before the examinations in December come up.

A study plan is only as effective as long as it’s followed; make sure you check out how to clear the CMA exam in the first attempt before we proceed in this article to ensure that you have the right mindset for the CMA examination. Additionally, you must:

  1. Set small targets every day (like complete X number of questions or finish X number of pages)
  2. Keep away social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.)
  3. Reduce interaction with friends (not completely stop)
  4. Do NOT attend social events (can distract mind)

If you fail in any of the 4 cases here, no matter how good your study plan is, you will not be able to stick to it. So, make sure you take care of those areas first before we move on to creating and following the study plan for the CMA examinations.

Full-Time Student vs. Working Professional | CMA Study Plan

While creating a study plan, one of the most important factors to note or mention is whether you are studying for CMA full-time or are you are full-time/part-time working professionals. This is because depending on your answer, your schedule would differ, and so would your study plan.

However, regardless of whether you are a full-time student or a salaried employee, you need to put aside a minimum number of hours every day for your CMA study. Failing this, you will never be able to crack the examinations as you only have a limited amount of time, so you must know what you have to focus on.

To begin with, if you are a working professional, you will be busy for at least 10 – 12 hours a day where you spend 9 hours at your workplace and maybe 1-2 hours for commuting between home and office. So, you will need to make the full use of your weekends and holidays.

As a student, though, you have the entire 24 hours to yourself for your CMA examination preparation, so you do not have a single excuse to not crack the examinations in the first attempt.

CMA Study Plan for Full-time Students

If you are a full-time student preparing for the CMA examinations, you have ample time to study and still relax every day. However, you should still be careful about how you spend your time and keep track of your activities so you don’t end up wasting your precious moments.

Given below is a sample study plan that you as a full-time student can modify as per their requirements. We would advise you to print the schedule and stick it at a place where you can see it right after you wake up; that way, you will be subconsciously motivated to follow it.

Start Time Finish Time Description Duration
9:00:00 AM 10:00:00 AM Waking up, shower, breakfast 1 hr.
10:05:00 AM 10:35:00 AM Revision (last day studies) 30 min.
10:40:00 AM 11:45:00 AM Study (theory subject #1) 1 hr. 5 min.
11:45:00 AM 12:00:00 PM Break 15 min.
12:05:00 PM 1:45:00 PM Study (theory subject #1) 1 hr. 40 min.
1:45:00 PM 2:00:00 PM Break 15 min.
2:05:00 PM 3:30:00 PM Lunch, afternoon break/nap 1 hr. 25 min.
3:35:00 PM 4:20:00 PM Study (revision) 45 min.
4:25:00 PM 5:00:00 PM Break 35 min.
5:05:00 PM 6:30:00 PM Study (practical subject #1) 1 hr. 25 min.
6:35:00 PM 6:50:00 PM Break 15 min.
7:00:00 PM 8:30:00 PM Study (practical subject #1) 1 hr. 30 min.
8:30:00 PM 10:00:00 PM Break, dinner, rest 1 hr. 30 min.
10:05:00 PM 11:05:00 PM Study (practical subject #1) 1 hr.
11:10:00 PM 11:50:00 PM Revision (practical subject #1) 40 min.
11:50:00 PM 12:00:00 AM Break, prepare for sleeping 10 min.
12:00:00 AM 9:00:00 AM Sleep 9 hr.

In the study plan mentioned above, you can see that a total of more than 8 hours per day has been allocated to study, which is quite good. Always aim to focus on the quality rather than the quantity, because CMA examinations are not about how much you cover; they are about how well you cover the chapters. Feel free to make adjustments to the timings above, but you must cover 8 hours of study per day mandatorily; we are focusing on the 8 hours because CMA as a course requires intensive study, and you will not realize when the 8 hours pass by if you are deeply engaged in studying.

CMA Study Plan for Working Professionals

The case is slightly tricky for those of you who are currently working full-time.  After all, it is known that job and commuting together take away a lot of time and energy from you. However, you don’t have to sacrifice your dream of clearing the CMA examinations for that.

Follow this study plan, and you will definitely clear your CMA examinations no matter whether you are studying for the foundational, intermediate, or final level.

Start Time Finish Time Description Duration
8:00:00 AM 7:00:00 PM Breakfast, job, commuting to and from office 11 hr.

8:10:00 PM 9:00:00 PM Study (Theoretical subject #1) 50 min.

This study plan given above has about 4 hours of study per day, which is sufficient and realistic for any working professional. It may not be possible to study for longer than 4 hours every day if you are employed somewhere, because you might be tired and sleepy.

However, make sure you follow the first study plan (for full-time students) on your holidays and weekends.

Important Tips for CMA Students

  1. No matter whether you are a full-time student or a working professional, you need to study 6-7 days a week. There’s NO OTHER WAY.
  2. If you are a full-time student, study 1 theoretical subject + 1 practical subject per day so you don’t get bored (if you are studying for a period of 8 hours, allocate 4 hours to each subject).
  3. If you are a working professional, study only ONE subject per day (4 hours); You can alternate between theory subjects for 1 day and practical subjects for another.
  4. If you are a working professional, make the most of your commuting time by watching SuperProfs’ video lectures for CMA Foundation, CMA Intermediate, and CMA Final
  5. Revision is a VERY IMPORTANT part of your study. Make sure to revise practical subjects once per day, and theory subjects twice (after waking up and before going to sleep).
