CS Exam Pattern

There are three levels of examinations that are conducted each of them known as- Foundation Programme, Executive Programme, and Professional Programme. Here in this article, we will be helping you out with the CS exam pattern for each of the stages of the examination under the CS curriculum.

CS Foundation Exam Pattern

  • The Foundation Programme is the first level examination in the CS curriculum, comprising of four papers that you have to appear for. The examination under this programme will be a computer-based MCQ examination. Students have to appear for examination from their allotted centers where they will give the exam through a computer. 
  • There will be a total of fifty multiple-choice questions for each paper, consisting of 2 marks each. Therefore, the total marks allotted for each paper will be 100 and for all the four papers, 400.
  • There is no negative marking under this programme, therefore, it is always advisable to attempt all the questions. 
  • The Four papers under the foundation programme are: 
  1. Business Environment and Law.
  2. Business Management, Ethics, and Entrepreneurship.
  3. Business Economics.
  4. Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing.
  • This Examination is held twice a year during the months of June and December, respectively.
  • However, in order to pass this program one has to secure:
    1. 40% marks each paper.
    2. 50% marks aggregate.
  • There shall be an examination of two papers each day during a session of 90 minutes. For example, paper 1 and paper 2 shall be held the same day split over a total duration of 90 minutes for both the papers. The remaining two papers shall be examined the following day.

CS Executive Exam Pattern 

  • The second stage under the CS curriculum is the Executive Programme. This Programme consists of two modules having a total of eight papers among themselves.
  • You can appear for either both the modules together or one module at a time as per your convenience. The students are expected to complete a Pre-exam online test conducted by ICSI before filling up their examination forms for the Executive Programme.
  • The Pre-exam Online Test is a computer-based online MCQ test that the students can appear from their home, using the allocated log in id and password.
  • Out of the eight papers, four of the papers are subjective papers where students are expected to write down the answers and four of the papers are MCQ based papers that are conducted in an OMR sheet. 
  • There is negative marking for the MCQ based papers, where the student will lose 1 mark for every 4 wrong answers. 
  • For the MCQ based exams, a total of 100 questions will be asked carrying one mark each that you have to answer in your provided OMR sheet. 
  • For the subjective papers, there will be a total of 8 questions asked with 2 questions carrying alternatives. 
  • The examination shall be conducted for a duration of three hours per subject.
  • However, in order to pass this programme one has to secure:
    1. 40% marks each paper.
    2. 50% marks aggregate.
  • If you score sixty percent or more marks at any paper, then you will be able to claim an exemption on that respective paper and then in case you are unable to clear the examination at that attempt, you will not have to sit for that particular paper again in your next attempt.
  • The Module wise segregation under this programme is:

Module 1:

  • Jurisprudence, Interpretation & General Laws.
  • Company Law
  • Setting up of Business Entities and Closure
  • Tax Laws (OMR based).

Module 2: 

  • Corporate & Management Accounting (OMR based).
  • Securities Laws & Capital Markets
  • Economic, Business and Commercial Laws
  • Financial and Strategic Management (OMR based).

The exams under this programme are held twice a year during the months of June and December, respectively.

For Subjective Papers: Marked as per the quality and correctness of the answer presented.

 

For Subjective Papers: 1 mark for every correct answer and Negative marking also present. You will lose 1 mark for every 4 wrongly answered questions.

CS Professional Exam Pattern:

  • The Final Stage in the CS Curriculum is known as the Professional Programme. This module is divided into three modules containing three papers each, therefore nine papers in total.
  • You can appear for either the modules together or one module at a time as per your convenience. The students are expected to complete a Pre-exam online test conducted by ICSI before filling up their examination forms for the Professional Programme.
  • The Pre-exam Online Test is a computer-based online MCQ test that the students can appear from their home, using the allocated login ID and password.
  • All nine papers under this professional programme are subjective; However, two of the nine papers are Open Book Exam based wherein the students are allowed to carry their books and notes when they appear for the respective paper.
  • The duration of each examination is three hours.
  • For every subjective paper, there will be a total of 8 questions asked with 2 questions carrying alternatives. 
  • However, in order to pass this programme one has to secure:
    1. 40% marks each paper.
    2. 50% marks aggregate.
  • If you score sixty percent or more marks at any paper, then you will be able to claim an exemption on that respective paper and then in case you are unable to clear the examination at that attempt, you will not have to sit for that particular paper again in your next attempt.

  • Corporate restructuring, Insolvency and Winding Up.
  • Resolution of corporate disputes, Non Compliances and remedies.

Module 3:

  • Corporate Funding & Listings in Stock Exchange.
  • Multidisciplinary case studies. (Open Book Examination)
  • Elective Paper (1 out of the given 8 options) (Open Book Examination)
