What is SSC?

SSC or Staff Selection Commission is an authority under Government of India. Staff Selection Commission is responsible for Release of Notification, Inviting application, Receiving applications, Conducting of examinations, and final selection of candidates for different positions in various departments of government and ministries. Staff Selection Commission has been conducting the annual recruitment process for government posts since its inception on 4th November 1975. SSC is headquartered in New Delhi with 7 regional offices at Allahabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai and Raipur. The Staff Selection Commission is headed by Ashim Khurana, Chairman, SSC.

Combined Graduate Level exam (Also called SSC CGL)

This exam is conducted annually. SSC CGL is the most popular exam conducted by SSC. Nearly 14 lakhs candidates appeared SSC CGL in 2016. And the surprising fact is the number of vacancies, which was only less than 4000. If you find out the ratio of the number of applications to a number of jobs you will find that there are 350 students competing for a single job of SSC CGL. This shows the level of popularity if the SSC CGL exam. The posts which come under SSC CGL are Central Excise Inspector, Income tax Inspector, Statistical Investigator etc.

Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL)

This exam is conducted by SSC to recruit for Group-D posts in various government departments. This exam is the most participated exam in India with about 30 Lakh applicants every year. The eligibility for this exam is the 12th class or 10+2 or intermediate level of education in any stream. The various posts under this exam include Postal Assistant in Post offices, Data Entry Operator and Court Clerk, etc.

Junior Engineer Examination

This is a technical job which falls in Group-B posts. This exam fulfills the technical manpower requirements in various departments like the Central Water Commission and Central Public Works Department.
